Vinmec received its second international accreditation

TTO – In a ceremony held on the morning of June 5, Mrs. Paula Wilson, President and CEO of the Joint Commission International (JCI), presented Vinmec Times City Hospital with the JCI accreditation certificate.

Vietnam’s first general hospital to attain JCI accreditation

During the ceremony, held at Vinmec Times City Hospital (Hanoi) on June 5th, Mrs. Paula gave her analysis of Vinmec’s potential to excel in hospital management quality.

For her, Vinmec’s advantages were: its modern and synchronous facilities; the highest level of support from Vingroup; and its team of committed experts and leaders who put patients at the heart of all Vinmec’s policies.

According to Mrs. Paula, JCI experts were impressed by the feedback provided by patients in Vietnam.

Despite being operational for just over six years, this was Vinmec’s second JCI accreditation.

In attendance at the ceremony, Mr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director-General of the Department of Medical Service Administration (Ministry of Health), revealed that out of the 1,400 hospitals currently operating in Vietnam, only four have been awarded this prestigious certificate. Among those, Vinmec Times City is the first general hospital.

It is even more noteworthy that two out of four JCI-accredited hospitals in Vietnam are part of the Vinmec Healthcare System (Vinmec Central Park Hospital (HCMC) is also JCI-accredited).

In order to obtain JCI accreditation, Vinmec had to constantly improve itself. At the 2015 assessment, Vinmec only met a little over 1,000 criteria; however, at the 2018 re-assessment, Vinmec met more than 1,200 criteria.

“At the heart of JCI’s mission lies a fundamental principle: patients first. Earning the second accreditation at re-assessment differs significantly from Vinmec’s first attempt. This is due to the hospital’s established foundation and accumulated experience during subsequent evaluations. We hope that Vinmec will continue to keep up the good work,”  shared Mrs. Paula with the press at the ceremony.

The “gold standard” for hospitals

Attaining the second JCI accreditation was an uphill journey for all medical and administrative staff at Vinmec Times City Hospital.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Minh Loi, the hospital’s director, JCI is the most rigorous certification of hospital quality and patient safety in the world.

Since July 2017, JCI has implemented a new version that consists of 1,200 denominators to measure and analyze every stage of service and operation.

“Vinmec has been striving to meet global healthcare quality standards”, affirmed Prof. Dr. Bui Du Phu, Deputy Director of Vinmec Healthcare Systems.

Mrs. Paula agreed with the comments made by Vinmec’s leaders. According to her, the Joint Commission International (JCI) is a US-based, non-profit, and independent hospital accreditation organization founded in 1994. With a presence in over 90 countries, JCI unites top healthcare professionals worldwide, specializing in quality management, infection prevention and control, drug safety, hospital management, and administration.

The JCI accreditation is renowned globally for its rigorous standards concerning hospital quality and patient safety. Hospitals that have been accredited with this “gold standard” can be trusted for their high standards of safety and quality in patient care and hospitals.

“JCI experts were particularly impressed with Vinmec’s constant update of JCI’s latest demands, which are increasingly rigorous, in order to make significant improvements from their first evaluation, demonstrating continuous enhancement of service quality. We were also impressed with the good feedback given from Vinmec’s patients during the onsite interview,”  shared Mrs. Paula.

According to Mr. Bui Duc Phu, in order to maintain its title as a “world-class hospital,”  first awarded on June 26, 2015, Vinmec Times City has been making relentless efforts to enhance its treatment and service.

As the JCI accreditation requires re-assessment every 3 years, Mr. Phu believed that this successful re-assessment would serve as a positive impetus for other hospitals within the Vinmec Healthcare Systems, specifically Vinmec Central Park Hospital, which will undergo its re-assessment in two years. This achievement affirms Vinmec’s dedication to offering the best and safest medical services to its customers.
