Vinmec Healthcare System has recently announced its latest accomplishments, which serve as a testament to Vinmec’s professional capabilities.
Accordingly, with its cutting-edge TAVI Cardiovascular Center, Vinmec has established itself as a leader in the field of advanced medical techniques, having successfully performed a series of complex surgeries and published several valuable medical research papers on stem cells, gene technology, and so on. These achievements are crucial milestones in Vinmec’s strategy to expand its reach beyond national borders, playing a significant role in shifting public perception of Vietnam’s medical sector.
Mastering complex techniques
Since 2017, Vinmec Central Park Hospital (HCMC) has emerged as the leading independent TAVI Cardiovascular Center in Vietnam. Concurrently, Prof. Dr. Vo Thanh Nhan, Director of the Cardiovascular Center, has been acknowledged as the foremost TAVI authority in Vietnam.

In the field of anesthesiology and pain management, Vinmec has garnered attention for its pioneering innovations. Notably, the use of the erector spinae plane (ESP) has been shown to provide extensive pain relief for heart surgery patients. This method has also been found to reduce the duration of intensive care while effectively eliminating the possibility of postoperative pain and chronic pain in up to 96% of cases. At the 43rd World Congress on Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine held in the United States in April 2018, Vinmec became the first hospital to announce its successful ESP open-heart operations. According to Vinmec’s representative, Vinmec has successfully performed over 1,000 ESP open-heart surgeries, boasting a flawless success rate of 100%.
Since 2017, Vinmec has been utilizing regional anesthesia to alleviate pain during and after obstetric surgeries. To this day, it remains the only hospital in the country to offer this service. “With their remarkable successes, Vinmec’s painless birthing techniques have garnered significant attention from the medical community both domestically and internationally. We have also engaged in technique transfers to many hospitals in Asia and Europe”, shared Vinmec’s representative.
Over 1,000 cases of open-heart surgeries have been performed at Vinmec using ESP, resulting in a painless experience and quicker recovery for patients.
In other medical disciplines, Vinmec has also made significant strides, particularly as one of the pioneering hospitals in Vietnam to successfully carry out complex procedures such as liver transplantation for children weighing less than 10kg, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) transplantation, application of immunotherapy in cancer treatment, application of robots in treatment of various conditions (cancer, digestive disorders, gynecological disorders, etc.), and so on, with a success rate of up to 95%.
“Made by Vinmec” research
One of the most internationally recognized studies was the groundbreaking research on the Vietnamese genome, conducted by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, Director of the Vinmec Research Institute of Stem Cell and Gene Technology, and his colleagues. In July 2019, this highly acclaimed study on the Vietnamese genome was published in the esteemed international journal on genetics, Human Mutation. This extensive research is considered one of the most comprehensive and expansive studies ever conducted on the Vietnamese genome, serving as a valuable reference point for later biomedical studies and specific solutions for Vietnamese health issues.
This is also one of the first studies on the Vietnamese genome selected by a specialized council of a prestigious journal as an excellent research project to be widely published. This highlights the researchers’ ability to conduct in-depth and independent research on pace with the latest trends in the field, which is a positive development for the scientific community in Vietnam.
Following this project, the Institute has published its research on the detection of mutations in six new genes related to autism in Vietnamese children, conducted independently between 2016 and 2019. This is one of the most extensive and in-depth genetic studies to date on children with autism in Vietnam. The study’s findings have the potential to revolutionize the way autism is screened, diagnosed, and treated, forming the foundation for future genetic counseling and autism therapy in the country. In September 2020, the Stem Cell Translational Medicine and Frontiers in Pediatrics Journal (USA) published an article about the Institute’s pioneering study on stem cell transplantation for the treatment of autism.

Over the past years, with a research focus on the root of incurable diseases and the goal of providing practical solutions for patients, the Vinmec Research Institute of Stem Cell and Gene Technology has given hope to children with disabilities. Vinmec has performed many successful stem cell transplants for children suffering from cerebral palsy and autism, treating a range of conditions, including multiple myeloma, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, congenital biliary atresia, knee osteoarthritis, and cirrhosis.
During the most intense period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Institute successfully created two SARS-CoV-2 virus test kits, known as VinKit. These kits have the ability to accelerate testing by twofold, surpassing the current market offerings while maintaining the same level of quality as those endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
With its research projects on stem cells and genetics widely published in the world’s foremost scientific journals, Vinmec solidified its reputation as a world-class leader in scientific research, contributing to shifting public perceptions of research and scientific publication in Vietnam among the global community.
